The Wallflowers New Album Coming In July 2021
The Wallflowers have been away from the music scene for about ten years, and they are coming back with their seventh album “Exit Wounds” (with New West Records), and their first single from the album, “Roots and Wings”. Which was performed on Jimmy Kimmel live in April. The album is said to be released on the 19th of July 2021.
It is produced by Butch Walker (who worked with Taylor Swift and Weezer) with the mixing done by Chris Dugan (who worked with Green Day). So you know the album was made by the best with the aid of the best. And there will be four tracks featuring Shelby Lynne, among other guest musicians that Jabob Dylan really wanted to play with, and some of these guests make a return to The Wallflowers tracks.
More About the Album
Dylan in an interview with Americansongwriter.com went on to explain that he wanted to make the record that he always wanted using musicians that have always been by his side. He explains that the new record was made as a band with the other five Wallflowers playing in a room together. This is where the magic happens where one plus one would add up to three. And the fans can expect to feel this magic when they get a chance to listen to the new record when it is released.
Their first single off their upcoming album, “Roots and Wings” lets The Wallflowers be in their natural state but with a lot more stories to tell and lyrics to sing, especially with ten years behind them now.
However, the band did not completely fade away. Because in 2020 their hit song “One Headlight” from 1996 was featured in “The King of Staten Island ” which starred Pete Davidson and was directed by Judd Apatow. The song, of course, fitted well with the movie.
Dylan went on to say in the interview that he is the same songwriter as he always has been. But, he did write the new album during the time when the world was seemingly falling apart with anxiety and worry running wild. But, there was always hope in that period in which he wanted the latest album to also reflect. This new album is for the people that have been through “stuff” and it is an ode to them.
The concept of the album will look at the idea that you cannot leave behind your “exit wounds”. That they are something that you take with you. These are the changes that you have experienced, and the people that you have meant along the way. As well as the event or “stuff” that happened to you. You do not forget about them and that you sometimes may think about them. It does not have negative connotations but merely stating what does happen in real life. Even when people move on, there are always memories and fragments of the past that follow them. It is inescapable, but it is not a bad thing at all.
What Is Next for The Band
While their new album is coming out soon on across many digital platforms, in vinyl, CDs, and even limited edition vinyl, the band is planning on touring. They have currently locked down a 53 date arena tour. Which should run from the 16th of July until the 7th of October this year.
Right now the band is most likely hard at work getting ready for their tour. And, marketing their new album and songs. You can expect to get the tickets for the concerts soon, so keep your eye out for them. It is great to have the band back with new music, and more stories to tell. It has been a long wait, but “Exit Wounds” will certainly be worth it. And, we will know as soon as we get our ears on it. So let’s put away the online slot machines for free play, whatever online games we have been playing and book the tickets.
